Not first assault on police officer charge for Vineland man

  • News
A Vineland man charged with attempted murder after allegedly attacking an officer with a knife was previously charged with assaulting an officer, records show. Johnny Flores, 26, was arrested Wednesday after he stabbed Officer John Warrington in the face and head during a fight, according to the charges filed against him. Warrington and another unnamed officer went to the South Valley Avenue residence to assist state Department of Human Services workers, Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae said. Warrington was hospitalized, but has since been released. The other officer was treated for minor injuries, Webb-McRae said. No information on why the workers were coming to the house has been released.
Flores is now charged with six counts, including attempted murder and aggravated assault. This was not his first violent run-in with police, according to jail records. Flores was in the Cumberland County Jail Nov. 30, charged with two counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and one count of resisting arrested/threatening force against a law enforcement officer. He was released on his own recognizance Dec. 4. Details of that incident were not immediately available. Flores is now jailed on $500,000 full cash bail.
