Campaign looks to show dangers of Atlantic City public safety cuts

  • News
An education campaign that plans to educate the public about the danger of potential public safety cuts to Atlantic City will be kicked off on Friday. The campaign's official rollout comes as Atlantic City's public safety workers wait for a judge's ruling on the state's ability to possibly halve the Fire Department. Judge Julio Mendez is expected to release his decision on the constitutionality of the state takeover and whether it can make major personnel cuts along with changes to the union contract. The Atlantic County Superior Court assignment judge has worked weeks on the case. A decision could come Wednesday, according to his office. The campaign will include billboards, direct mail, online advertising and multiple grassroots activities, according to a release announcing the event. "Don't Gamble on Safety" already has a website and Facebook page
meant to inform the public about the cuts expected to affect 100 firefighters and bring police numbers down to the lowest since the casino era.
