Pleasantville sex assault suspect arrested at Canadian border

  • News
A man accused of a sexual assault in Pleasantville was arrested Thursday evening trying to get into Canada. Police were called to Shore Medical Center in Somers Point at about 11 p.m. Monday for the report of a sexual assault on Falcon Drive, Capt. Matt Hartman said. Detective James Searle worked overnight into the next day to identify the assailant as Jean Milice, 31, of Somers Point. Hartman credited Searle's dogged determination in the case, including working with New York law enforcement on his day off to find Milice. New York State Police in the Champlain/Plattsburgh Barracks told him the accused may be around a business in the Village of Champlain, which is on the border of Canada. There is a border-crossing station in the village. Pleasantville police personnel contacted the Champlain Customs and Border Protection Station and gave them information on Milice. He was taken into custody and turned over to New York State Police. He is in the Clinton County Jail awaiting extradition back to Atlantic County. Milice is charged with aggravated sexual assault. "This arrest is a clear testament to the cooperation between agencies at the local, state and federal level and the outstanding results that it can bring," Hartman said. "The Pleasantville Police Department extends our gratitude to the New York State Police Champlain/Plattsburgh Barracks and the Customs and Border Protection Champlain Station for their assistance in apprehending Milice before he was able to leave the country."
