Resolution will protect Atlantic City if Bayview motel needs to be demolished

  • News
Atlantic City is making sure the absent owner of a motel twice struck by fire won’t get the insurance money and run.
A resolution before City Council sets demolition of the Bayview Inn & Suites at $300,000. But the vote at Wednesday’s meeting is not to actually demolish the dilapidated motel, Licensing and Inspection Director Dale Finch explained. Instead, it’s meant to protect the city from being stuck with the bill for those costs. Currently, an unnamed group is interested in buying the property just off Exit 2 from the Atlantic City Expressway, Finch said. But if that deal falls through and the current owner gets an insurance check, the money won’t go out the door, he said. “Without a special assessment, he would receive the money and walk away,” Finch said.  “This enables us, if we have to tear it down and if there are proceeds from fire claims, we will get the proceeds.” https://breakingac.com/fire-at-closed-atlantic-city-motel-under-investigation/ Owner Randhir “Randy” Maisuria is a difficult man to track down. While the city has been in contact with him, the promises he’s made have not been kept. But in November, a new owner showed interest in rebuilding the motel and was looking to reopen by Memorial Day weekend. That unnamed entity is still looking to buy, Finch said Wednesday. “They are actively looking at it,” he said. “We’re trying to work with them but we explained it would be a stringent process. We can’t let it sit for months and months and months.” https://breakingac.com/where-in-the-world-is-atlantic-city-motels-owner/
