Blizzard conditions expected as heavy winds and snow head to Atlantic County

  • News
Cancellations started early Wednesday as snow predictions looked to shutdown the area. The snow is expected to start after 10 p.m. and continue until about noon Thursday, said Nor'easter Nick Pittman, chief forecaster for
SNJ Today. Preparations began early Wednesday morning with salt trucks seen on area roads. "Travel will be very difficult with blizzard conditions," Pittman said. Blizzard refers not to snow accumulation but sustained wind gusts of more than 35 mph, which can reduce visibility to less than a quarter-mile, he explained. Gusts are predicted to be in excess of 45 mph, especially along the coast. But snow is expected to accumulate with predictions of 6 to 10 inches for Hammonton east, including all of Atlantic and Cape May counties. There is the potential for a bust west of Hammonton if dry air moves in, Pittman said. "A round of minor flooding is possible in the morning, but winds shifting north will quickly push water back out to sea," he said. https://www.facebook.com/NorEasterNick/videos/vb.202056009839273/1818502941527897/?type=2&theater
