'Outraged' public aiding investigation into brutal EHC Halloween attack

  • News
Strides have been made in the investigation into a brutal Egg Harbor City beating that left a man and his teen cousin injured on Halloween, police said. "Citizens are outraged by the violence and have provided information vital to the investigation," Sgt. Marcella Aylwin said. "The public has been forthcoming with tips and leads." Danny Peterson, 29, remains hospitalized after the attack outside the Wells Fargo on Philadelphia Avenue. He suffered a broken jaw, had to have his earlobe reattached and needed 28 stitiches on his face after the attack. His 15-year-old cousin, Ethan Drey, suffered a concussion and thought he was witnessing his older cousin's killing, family has said. Egg Harbor City police are working with detectives from the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office to find the assailants, Aylwin said. Detectives and patrol officers have collected surveillance footage, and interviewed the victims and witnesses, she said. The investigation has taken them to "multiple jurisdictions." Because juveniles are involved, surveillance footage is not being released at this time, Aylwin said. They already have gathered a "large amount of information," but are building a case that will have enough evidence to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, she said. No arrest have been made at this time. Anyone with information is asked to call police at at 609-965-2901, ext. 4.

GoFundMe set up to help injured cousins

CLICK PHOTO TO HELP Danny Peterson earns a living in a variety of ways. The Egg Harbor City man waits tables, works construction, mows lawns and does other odd jobs, his cousin Jen Fernandez said. But Peterson is now out of commission, hospitalized after a brutal beating Halloween night. Fernandez set up a GoFundMe page in hopes of helping her cousins Peterson and 15-year-old Ethan Dey, who was also attacked.
