Atlantic City officer saves overdose victim with CPR

  • News

An Atlantic City police officer breathing life into a man after Narcan didn’t help reverse an overdose.
Officer Nicholas Grasso responded to an overdose call Friday in an apartment on the first block of South Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard, Sgt. Kevin Fair said.
Witnesses directed him to a second-floor bathroom where a 28-year-old Medford man was unresponsive, according to the report.
Grasso first used his department-issued naloxone kit, to try to reverse the effects of the overdose.
But when the man still didn’t have a pulse, Grasso began CPR, Fair said.
The man was revived after several rounds of chest compressions and rescue breaths, Fair said.
He regained consciousness a short time later with assistance from responding medical personnel.
The man, whose name is not being released, was taken to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s City Campus for further evaluation.
Grasso started out as a Class II officer, and has been full time for about two years.
