Accused killer who attacked attorney was given 'fines only' in previous assault

  • News

An accused killer who attacked his public defender during a court hearing previously assaulted a mental health worker, court records show.
Robert Fountaine, 33, was "sentenced to fines only," according to a plea agreement in the March 2017 attack on a worker at the Community Medical Center in Toms River.
The worker, whose name is not listed in the charges or affidavit, had to have three stitches to his upper lip and also had a cut on his lower lip, according to the court records obtained by BreakingAC.
He was living in Bayville, Berkeley Township at that time.

Fountaine had moved to Atlantic City by this past Feb. 10, when he was arrested after allegedly stabbing his neighbor inside the Inlet Towers on North New Hampshire Avenue.
Thomas Hill, 68, died of his injuries.
Fountaine has been in the Atlantic County Justice Facility ever since on a murder charge.
He received a simple assault charge and was assigned a new attorney after he attacked Mary Linehan on Tuesday, during an appearance before Superior Court Judge Patricia Wild in the murder case.
Fountaine was originally charged with two counts of third-degree aggravated assault in the 2017 Ocean County case. But that was reduced to a disorderly persons offense of improper behavior/create hazardous condition under a plea agreement signed June 27, 2017.
