  • News

Police are investigating after a handgun went off during a recreational youth basketball game inside an Atlantic City school Thursday night.
No injuries were reported.
Police were called to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. School Complex just before 9 p.m. after an unknown juvenile dropped a handgun on the ground, causing it to discharge.
As people ran from the gymnasium, an officer who was already on scene responded to the commotion, Sgt. Kevin Fair said. A handgun was found on the floor.
Detectives of the Street Crimes Unit are investigating the incident and trying to identify the juvenile.
The players at the time were 16 and 17 years old, a source told BreakingAC.
Superintendent Barry Caldwell did not respond to requests for comment.
