  • News

An Atlantic City woman is accused of staging her own abduction to get ransom money.
Casandra Oglesby, 25, sent messages to her family and friends, saying she had been taken and that they needed to pay to have her returned, Sgt. Kevin Fair said.
Police were called to Liberty Apartments where Oglesby lives at about 1:10 a.m. Tuesday.
The FBI and Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office assisted in the investigation, and the city's SWAT team was activated to help, Fair said.
But detectives developed information that showed Oglesby might still be inside the building.
Surveillance confirmed that when they saw her leaving the apartment building at about 2:30 p.m., according to the report.
She and boyfriend, Robert Hawthorne, were stopped.
Oglesby was charged with creating a false public alarm. She also had a warrant for contempt of court.
She was released on a summons.
Hawthorne, 34, of Newark, also had a contempt of court warrant and was released on a summons.
Oglesby told BreakingAC she does not have an attorney.
