Alleged gang member had gun while fleeing A.C. police, charges claim

  • News

An alleged gang member was arrested Friday in Atlantic City, and a handgun was recovered.
Nasir Donaldson, now 20, was a minor when he was involved in a shootout between rival gangs during a party inside a Trump Taj Mahal hotel room in March 2016, according to a previous plea.
Donaldson was sentenced to 18 months’ juvenile probation under a plea agreement in that case.
He was arrested Friday after a group of men he was with drew the attention of detectives who saw them passing around what appeared to be a marijuana blunt while in the area of Virginia and Magellan avenues at about 1:50 p.m., Sgt. Kevin Fair said.
Detectives Darrin Lorady, Anthony Abrams and Alberto Valles saw Donaldson showing those in the group what was inside a satchel around his neck, according to the report.
As the officers moved in to investigate, Donaldson fled, Fair said.
Ignoring officers’ orders to stop, he ran into a residence in the 1100 block of Brigantine Boulevard, according to the report. He then came out a short time later, without the satchel.
A search of the residence led to the satchel, which had a handgun loaded with hollow-point ammunition, Fair said.
A small amount of marijuana was also found.
Donaldson is a member of the Head Shot Gang, based in Back Maryland, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner previously said.
He is now charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, obstruction of justice, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of hollow-point ammunition.
Donaldson is in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
The jail no longer provides mugshots to the media in keeping with the Attorney General Guidelines, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.
