  • News

An Atlantic City man marked his second anniversary out of prison back behind bars Saturday.

Lavawn Harris, 38, was arrested Friday night, after police were called to the area of Tennessee and Caspain avenues for a report of a man with a gun, Lt. Kevin Fair said.

The caller reported seeing two men arguing, and then one pulled out a gun.

Officer Dion Liu found a man matching the suspect's description in the 1400 block of Sewell Avenue, according to the report.

Liu stopped him with help from K-9 Officer Jesse Oliver-Logan.

Harris was in possession of a handgun, along with 20 bags of heroin and more of the drug in a fanny pack, Fair said.

Harris was arrested with a gun in January 2017, after police were called to  Massachusetts and Atlantic avenues for shots fired. Officers found Harris, then 31, walking a dog about a block from the call.

He was sentenced to five years in prison in 2018, court records show. He was released Oct. 7, 2021.

Harris is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, certain person not to possess a weapon, possession of heroin, possession with intent to distribute, possession of with intent to distribute within a school zone and possession of a weapon while committing a drug offense.

He is in the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending a detention hearing.
