There's something for everyone Friday in Atlantic City

  • Things To Do

When I tell you this Friday there is something for everyone to do, it’s not hyperbole.

If you’ve had a tough week and are looking for some fun, want to be in a crazy crowd, need some mental stimulation or just fancy a stiff drink, check out a few of the off-the-beaten-path activities that will have you shouting, "TGIF!"

Raise a glass ... or a stein

Make your pretzel necklace right after work and definitely skip Happy Hour.

Because Friday at 8 p.m., the two-day, three-session AC Beer & Music Fest begins at the Atlantic City Convention Center.

Tickets are available right at the door. But organizer Jon Henderson warns the Saturday sessions usually sell out.

If you are traveling a long distance, your best bet to sew your wild oats … scratch that … sew your wild hops, is to pay those pesky Ticketmaster fees.

If you get them, your $75 ticket ($85 at the door) includes tastings from 100 breweries that will be serving 400 beers into your souvenir tasting mug.

There are mainstage bands, an acoustic stage, seminars, demonstrations and more. Friday’s session headliner is EMO band Hot Mulligan.

PRO TIP 1: Don’t miss Silent Disco! It’s a penned off area where a DJ spins dance hits into headphones. Whether you want to people watch as tipsy dancers cut a rug, or you want to show off your moves to an audience of equally tipsy people chuckling at you, this activity is nothing but delightful fun.

PRO TIP 2: Buy a non-drinking friend a designated driver ticket. Relax and enjoy the festival stress-free knowing you will get home safely. DD Tickets are $30 and DO NOT sell out under any circumstances. I guarantee that in any jurisdiction, $30 is a lot less than a DUI. Be smart. Stay safe.

AN EVENING WITH FRAN LEBOWITZ

Consider staying off Absecon Island this Friday only if you plan on heading to the Stockton Performing Arts Center to hear the quirky, ever acerbic and quick-witted rants of consummate New Yorker, author and actor Fran Lebowitz.

You have seen her on all the late-night shows. You may have read her work. You definitely caught at least one episode of "Law & Order" between 2001 and 2007, when she played Judge Janice Goldberg. But here is your chance to see her live without paying a $15.38 toll to travel over the Goethals Bridge.

Think, laugh, and maybe even wince a few times as Lebowitz does her favorite thing. "It's what I wanted my entire life. People asking me my opinion, and people not allowed to interrupt."

If you aren’t familiar with Fran, you are missing out.

She is every bit of the curmudgeon of Andy Sipowitcz coupled with the charm of your favorite, single, androgynously dressed college professor.

There’s lots to read about her on the internet, which is ironic as she doesn’t even own a computer, or a cell phone.

So if you see the show and don’t like something she says, she won’t even know if you try to cancel her.

There is limited seating left for this celebrity performance.

PRO TIP: Don’t sleep on this great venue on Stockton University’s main campus. There is not a bad seat in the house, It’s easy to get to And there are several diverse performances in the coming weeks.

A Motley flashback

This and every Friday, $10 gets you in the door with your first drink at Flashback Fridays at the Golden Nugget.

On the 12, you can tease up your hair and throw on anything leather for the tribute band Motley Crued.

These events are usually packed given the low entry point.

Your host for the evening is WIBG’s own Michael James.

Head to the bay and rock out on Fridays and still have money left over for a late-night dinner on the way home.
