  • News

Police are investigating two separate shootings that each wounded men hours apart in Atlantic City overnight Saturday.
The first shooting happened just before 10:30 p.m. in the area of Arctic and New Jersey avenues, Sgt. Kevin Fair said.
ShotSpotter, the city's audio gunshot-detection system, registered eight rounds.
People gathered at a cookout nearby rushed children inside a home, a witness tells BreakingAC.
Orion Austin, 22, of the city, was found with a gunshot wound to the leg. He was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus for treatment.
While investigating that shooting, Detective Schuyler Davis got information that a man had a gun.
He and Sgt. Charles Stuart found Elijah Harrison with a loaded gun in his waistband. He is not believed to have shot Austin, Fair said.
He is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of hollow-point bullets. Austin was taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility, awaiting a first appearance.
At 1:17 a.m., police responded to a second shooting in the 1800 block of Hummock Avenue.
Officers found Tracy Harris, 46, also a city resident, with a gunshot wound.
He also was taken to AtlantiCare for treatment.
The city's Violent Crimes Unit is investigating both incidents.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 609-347-5788 or Crime Stoppers at 609-652-1234. Information may also be texted anonymously to tip411 (847411) beginning the text with ACPD.
