Atlantic City mailbox has direct line to Santa

  • Community
A mailbox with a direct line to Santa has again popped up in Atlantic City this year. The mailbox first arrived in front of DeMarco’s Market in Chelsea Heights last year, with Santa’s helpers promising it would be an annual event. While Santa, of course, knows where every child lives, his helpers at the post office could use a little help. So, letters should all include a return address. The men and ladies at the post office aren’t just delivering letter, though.
This year, they have adopted a family with seven children who will get Christmas courtesy of local U.S. Postal Service workers, Hackney Concrete and some Chelsea Heights neighbors. Last year, the group “adopted” a family with five children and were able to fill up a van with gifts. “I can’t thank the donors enough for helping make that family’s Christmas and stepping up,” said Mail Lady Elf, who got Santa to set up the local mailbox. She expected to just get local children answers to their letters, but the outpouring from the special elves at the post office and other volunteers allowed much more. Mail Lady Elf also thanked DeMarco’s for allowing the box to be outside their market at 3809 Crossan Ave. Parents are urged to get their kids to mail their letters by Dec. 21.
